Dr. David H. Harley is a plastic surgeon committed to providing his patients with superior care, cutting edge techniques, and outstanding results.
Dr. Harley was raised in the mountains of North Carolina and completed his secondary education at Tuscola High School, where he graduated as valedictorian. He completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College, graduating with the Cum Laude distinction, and completed medical school at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He is a recipient of the Hospital Award of Excellence, selected by the chief residents of every service, and the Dean’s Award of Distinction, chosen by the dean for outstanding qualities of leadership and humanitarian service. He is a member of the Vanderbilt chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
Following medical school, Dr. Harley embarked on five years of residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in head and neck surgery. After completion of this training, he pursued a second residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX.
During his plastic surgery residency, Dr. Harley trained with internationally renowned aesthetic plastic surgeons at St. Joseph Medical Center. In addition, he trained at the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Center, performing cancer reconstructive surgery. Dr. Harley has published many peer-reviewed journal articles, including a publication documenting patient satisfaction following facial cosmetic procedures performed under local anesthesia. He has extensive experience with a breadth of cosmetic techniques, including facial, breast, and body contouring procedures, as well as non-invasive procedures.
Dr. Harley proudly serves our nation's veterans as a staff physician at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, a position he has held since he first set up practice in Asheville in 2008. He performs four to five surgical procedures every other week at the Veterans Hospital. These procedures mainly involve the treatment of complicated cancer cases and the reconstruction of subsequent cancer defects. He finds this time spent helping the veterans to be among the most rewarding experiences of his medical career.
Dr. Harley is double board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology. His seven years of training following medical school include training with two separate ACGME accredited residency programs, with intensive training in Plastic Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery.
